We know many have been eagerly anticipating the return of in-person camping for Canada East, and we are excited to share that, barring any dramatic changes in the state of COVID-19, we are moving forward with in-person family camping and retreats this year.
In light of our enduring principles around the worth of all persons, unity in diversity, and personal responsibility, we are offering some guidance. We do this because of our gospel call to offer welcome to the least and most vulnerable among us. First of all, our corporate responsibility as a Mission Centre is to always, at a minimum, follow local COVID guidelines for safe gatherings. Individual camp directors are responsible at a minimum, for knowing, implementing and ensuring camps follow all local health unit guidelines for communicable diseases for their campground location and to stay updated as those change. They may also decide that additional restrictions are necessary to keep campers safe, including things such as no in-out privileges during camp. So, please be sure to check specific guidelines for each camp you plan to attend keeping in mind that decisions may need to be updated according to shifting circumstances. Second, each of us has a personal responsibility to consider what we can do to protect one another. Personal responsibility can look like:
• coughing or sneezing into an elbow or sleeve Our guiding question for you is, "How will you protect the precious neighbour that sits beside you at camp?" We also encourage everyone to respect one another’s choices in how they have responded to COVID. Regardless of our individual views on vaccinations or public health mandates, we come together as one community who find unity in diversity. Some people will feel more comfortable wearing a mask and keeping their distance, others will be ready to embrace everyone. Please respect the speed and space of each person’s engagement at camp. We can’t wait to raise our voices to sing “We’re all together again, we’re here, we’re here” in the sacred spaces we find ourselves gathering in this summer, and to also sing the words together “We are one in the Spirit”. ![]() World Accord supporters, We have officially moved!! ![]() Tonight, Thursday, May 5, at 8:00 PM EDT) Apostle Art Smith will facilitate a scripture discussion on this week's lectionary reading, Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." We hope you'll join us. Here's what's happening this month... May 5 - Beyond Awakening: Meditation for Uncertain Times with Vickie @ 7 pm (CAN/US)
An inclusive, online community exploring time-honored practices that connect to resiliency and inner wisdom Experience a vibrant community of practice to enliven and support your awakening, and strengthen your ability to sustain your practice through the challenges of daily life. Together, we can tap directly into the infinite intelligence and freedom of the awakened mind. It will be an encounter of the 3rd kind, the 5th dimension, the nth dimension, the infinite, the eternal, Oneness, ...Perfect... Brilliant... Stillness...! This writing seems to go beyond the Course in Miracles in pointing closer than ever to Awakening; Understanding. (Monthly on the second Tuesday) May 10 - Seekers Circle Presentation with Karen Weir @ 7 pm EST (CAN/US) When my son died, I remember my friend/doctor/therapist standing beside me as we looked at Mikkel’s body in the casket, and he said, "What is it you want? Because you are going to have to live with this the rest of your life?" This statement is the premise of what I do. I help those dealing with loss, grief and bereavement define their wants so that they can heal, move forward and find peace in their continued life journeys. Written By The Land Special guest - Isabella Mori How does land communicate? The stream that tumbles down to the lake brings minerals and leaves and little water creatures and oxygen and so many other things, and each of them carries information. Isabella is intrigued by biomimicry, which takes inspiration from living systems for questions in areas such as science, engineering, and economics. Let's explore together how writers are written by the land and become an integral part of this lineage of communication. Isabella Mori’s poetry and short fiction have appeared in publications such as Presence, Kingfisher and The Group Of Seven Reimagined. Isabella’s books include A bagful of haiku – 87 imperfections. In April, they were a writer-in-residence at Hay Lake Lodge in Ontario’s Algonquin Park. Born in Germany, Isabella has lived in the UK, Paraguay, and Chile, and now resides in Vancouver, BC, on unceded Coast Salish territory, and works in psychiatry. (Third Wednesday monthly) May 24 - Conversations on Spirituality with Troy @ 7 pm EDT (CAN/US) Topic: The Existence of God Many perspectives circulate about the existence of God, and many people are shunned for their beliefs. This month we will explore where we hold common thoughts AND where we differ, with questions like "Does God exist?", "What if we are wrong?", and "Why does it matter?" We look forward to sharing this discussion together and how it will shape our spiritual journey and worldview. (Fourth Tuesday monhtly) May 30 - Energy Management & Integrity with Christine Balarezo @ 7 pm EDT (CAN/US) Come learn about how to manage your energy as a spiritual being, so that you can feel your best no matter what season you're in.We are in the passionate, adventurous, and lively season of Aries, which can help us accomplish things but can also quickly lead to burnout! Many of us are also going through many changes, both with endings and new beginnings. Join a Mentoring Group - Ongoing Learn to find guidance from within. Honour the truth that Divine Wisdom lives in all of us and the greatest freedom comes from living your own life and following personal direction from the spirit within. Be supported and provide support for others on your spiritual journey. Meet one day/night a week to share and develop your own spiritual path for three sessions (three weeks in total). Then participate in monthly gatherings to build community, strengthen your spirituality, and watch for openings to begin your journey to help others with their spiritual path. As we work hard to return to our camping experiences this summer, I am reaching out to as many leaders as possible. In this email you will find 4 attachments which outline the job postings for our Lifeguard Team this season. We are hiring a Waterfront Supervising Lifeguard to lead the team, a Waterfront Lifeguard, and a Junior Waterfront Lifeguard to create our team. We are also looking for 2 Waterfront Lifeguards (not on the team) who would be available to guard at Erie Beach Reunion.
Please share this with your congregations via email, in person, or online. It's important we get these job postings known in our communities. Lifeguards do not have to be members of Community of Christ, however, they do need to be a Registered Youth Worker. If they do not have this certification, we may be able to have them attend the course before the camps to receive it (time is of the essence). I look forward to putting this team together again this year and will be keeping each of your camps in my prayers. Blessings, Tamara Wright In an address to the church, President Veazey shared the following words:
“The future church is being formed by a basic concept: Our chief purpose is to birth, nurture, and multiply communities of disciples and seekers engaged in spiritual formation and compassionate ministry and action.” He cited the Spiritual Formation and Companioning Program (SFCP) as one of the ways we are living out this vision for our future. For the past four years, participants from United States and Canada have been growing deeper in their own spiritual formation and developing their gifts and skills to companion and lead others in spiritual formation, deep listening, and discernment. Even though we felt the impact of COVID-19, the staff and participants persevered and completed the program online. We’re excited to congratulate TROY ROACH and NADINE MANSON who have both completed the course! Their expanded understandings and skills in spiritual formation will most certainly be a blessing to Canada East Mission. Thank you Troy and Nadine for your commitment to this valuable resource. There are a variety of ways that they might share what they have learned:
Katie Harmon-McLaughlin says, “Our hope is that we can all work together to respond in many ways to the Spirit’s invitation in this significant moment in the church and the world. We encourage you to invite these persons into conversation about where the Spirit is guiding their ministry and presence. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have additional questions about program participants and meaningful integration in local ministries.” In the future, Graceland University’s Seminary will offer SFCP as a certificate program. Stay tuned for more details. If you, or someone you know might be interested in participating, please contact the Mission Centre President Team to discuss further. ![]() Grace Marie Moor1931 - 2022 - 2022Grace Marie (Jackson) Moor passed away peacefully Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022 at the age of 91. Grace was born on January 30, 1931 to Arthur and Pemla (Gibson) Jackson, on a farm near Florence, Ontario. In her early years, life on the farm enabled her to develop a deep love for animals and nature while displaying a strong work ethic. She attended high school in Florence and played baseball, pitching for the infamous ‘Florence Chicks’. Grace had a strong determination to succeed, which led her to attend Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa in 1950. She returned to Chatham, Ontario where she started her career as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, working at St. Joseph Hospital. During this time, Grace met Beverley Moor at Erie Beach. They were married on September 10, 1955 and built their home in Wabash, Ontario where they began their lifelong love story for over 66 years. Their union truly demonstrated the virtues to love, honour and cherish. Grace left her job after 10 years, to raise five children at home. She was a wonderful mother, always putting her children’s needs ahead of her own. The Community of Christ church in Wabash was an important part of her life, given her unwavering faith and devotion to God. She played the piano and organ for many weddings, funerals and church services. Grace especially liked Easter, when she would ensure the Moor brood were dressed in their Sunday finest. Grace accepted a call to Elder in 1988 providing ministry to many. It would be remiss not to mention that Grace completed her Medical Laboratory Technologist diploma at Fanshawe College when she was 52 years of age. She worked at Woodstock General Hospital for 12 years before retiring with Bev to Port Lambton, Ontario. Grace had many hobbies such as: quilting, gardening, oil painting, sewing and canning. She loved sports, especially baseball. She was an avid swimmer, doing lane swims even in her 70’s. She also enjoyed playing card games like Pepper. Grace exemplified qualities of humility, modesty, continuous learning, conviction to family, love for others, and hospitality. She always deflected attention to others as she wanted it to be their moment. Her name “Grace” was truly a reflection of her thoughtfulness, poise and gentleness of spirit. She was the rock of our family, offering strength during various life struggles. She truly was an example of the best mother, wife, relation, and friend. She received much joy from her grandkids and great grandkids. She made each child a personalized quilt, pillowcase and an oil painting of their favourite animal. She also participated in their blessings and weddings. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with vascular dementia and entered Riverview Gardens in 2014. She continued to be surrounded with the love of her husband and family throughout her stay there. Grace leaves behind her loving family and half a piece of pumpkin pie, but she saved her fork. She passed away knowing the best dessert was to come, in heaven with her loving God. Beloved wife of Beverley Moor from Dresden. Loving mother to the late Nancy (Tom Knight) of Dresden; Ken & Naomi Moor of Calgary; Susan & Ric Piacek of Dresden; Patsy & Rob Tonin of Cambridge; and Bryce & Heather Moor of Petrolia. A loving grandmother to her grandchildren: Mike Knight (Dana), Sarah Hebert (Stephané); the late Tricia Piacek; the late Carson Moor; Craig Piacek; Emma Tonin (James Law); Connor Moor (Mila Mezei); Kira Vibert(John); Rachel Anello (Giuseppe); Braden Moor and her precious great grandchildren, Jackson Knight, Rowan, Ellie and Gwen Hebert. Grace was a loving sister to the late James (Irene) Jackson, sister-in-law to the late Betty & Tiny Bechard; the late Barb & Jerry Morrison; the late Doris & Mark Stanlick; the late Doreen & Ron Armstrong; the late Janice & Alec Vadovic; and Dennis & Joan Moor. Forever missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held on Sunday June 5th @ 2:30 pm at Community of Christ in Wabash. Bring your quilt made by Grace. Those wishing to leave an expression of sympathy, please consider a donation to World Accord at https://worldaccord.org/donate/. Online condolences and donations may be left at www.badderfuneralhome.com. The family wishes to thank the healthcare providers at Riverview Gardens in Chatham who provided a loving environment for Grace during her final years. Arrangements entrusted to the John C. Badder Funeral Home, Thamesville. |
