ANNUAL "WALK FOR JUSTICE" TO GO AHEAD AS ONLINE EVENT
The annual Good Friday Walk for Justice, sponsored by the Simcoe County KAIROS community, will still take place this year by moving the event online using ZOOM and broadcast out on Facebook Live. This year's theme is centered around ecological justice and will be titled "Justice for the Earth", the idea being inspired by the efforts of Greta Thunberg and due to the heightened focus on the environment brought about by the current global pandemic. Viewers will be invited to "walk" virtually to acknowledge and confess humanity's complicity in ecological injustice and covenant to work towards ecological justice as a global village. The schedule runs approximately 30 minutes and will include reflections, prayers, and singing in unity with folks from a diversity of faith traditions, cultures and backgrounds and others from the local and surrounding community. Anyone can tune-in to the live video stream at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 10th (and participate in this observance) by going to the group's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/simcoekairos even without the need for a Facebook account. Simcoe County KAIROS, affiliated with KAIROS Canada, is a community of ordinary Canadians working together in faithful action for ecological justice and human rights. They can be contacted at [email protected]." Kerry Richards, CEM President has tested positive for CoVID-19. He is currently at home under a doctor's care. Greetings -
Since we are currently not meeting face-to-face in response to COVID-19, it's important that our contributions continue to support the mission of Christ...perhaps now more than ever. How do you typically contribute to the mission of Community of Christ? 💵 Cash/Cheque on Sundays in the offertory basket? 💳 Online payments via CanadaHelps? 🏦 Monthly pre-authorized transfer (PAT)? To put it bluntly, if you do not give via recurring PAT, the church is likely not receiving your financial contributions when face-to-face services are not taking place. Consider one or more of the following giving options that do not require physical attendance: 📋 Sign up for PAT 📶 Give online via CanadaHelps ✉️ Mail a cheque: Community of Christ CEM 355 Elmira Road North, Unit 129 Guelph, ON N1K 1S5 View all giving options on our website. Introduction into Spiritual Formation with Katie Harmon McLaughlin Monday April 27 – Friday May 1, 2020 from 7:30-9:00pm (EST) Online via ZOOM – requires attendance each evening $30 (includes HST) (same price for both audit & credit - audit requires no assignments) Course Description: What is spiritual formation? Henri Nouwen writes that spiritual formation is “about the movements from the mind to the heart that re-unites us with God, each other, and our truest selves.” M Robert Mulholland describes spiritual formation as “the process of being conformed to the image of Christ for the sake of others.” While spiritual formation is the one of the oldest sources of wisdom in the Christian tradition, it is experiencing fresh popularity in contemporary society as many leave behind institutional expressions of “the church” seeking sacred community and connection in new ways. Within the church, the contemplative tradition is bringing fresh life, energy, vitality, and depth to existing disciples and congregations, In this course, we will explore the rich traditions of Christian spiritual formation and discern its application for our own lives and contexts. We will explore ancient practises through the lens of an emerging postmodern worldview and will experience invitations to a life of wholeness, integrity, and connection with God, others, self and creation For more information please contact: David Lloyd at [email protected] For Canadian registration information please contact: Melissa Freer at [email protected] |
