Our Mission Centre is conducting a Spring Conference Saturday, March 26 celebrating the theme, “Moving Forward Together in Faith.” This heralds an exciting transition time in the life of our Mission Centre. There will be two major areas of business – two resolutions have been brought forth for submission to World Conference and we will have opportunity to sustain the new leadership team for Canada East Mission. Notification went out to Pastors some weeks ago requesting delegate selection. This process is underway in congregations. Pastors, please note that the deadline for submission of delegates for this conference is March 7. Each delegate, ex-officio and conference participant is required to register to both vote and/or to attend the conference which has been our usual procedure for on-line Conferences. Also, on this web page are the information links for the resolutions to be considered and the registration for the other pre-conference sessions. You can expect the Conference on-line e-booklet for you to review to be posted on the website the week prior to Conference. This will contain the resolutions for consideration, Congregation delegate numbers, agenda, previous conference minutes and operational resolutions.
During the week prior to Conference, we will have the following on-line sessions for you to attend… Voting Software Training - Optional (Poll Everywhere, choose one)

Let me offer my sincere thanks for your prayerful support. Together we have considered who are called to serve on the new Canada East Mission Centre Presidency Team. I have visited with many people, always aware of your prayerful support. Along my way, I encountered disciples who expressed interest and reflected on their potential role. Some of them had been nudged or encouraged by others to consider being part of the MCP Team. Today, I am pleased to share with you that at our March 26th special mission centre conference we will consider the recommendation of the First Presidency that the following three persons be sustained as the new Mission Centre Presidency Team for Canada East Mission.
I am deeply encouraged because of their giftedness, their willingness to serve, and their individual sense of call. The long list of people who have expressed their desire to help is every bit as encouraging. That long list includes individual disciples, priesthood quorums, pastors, campground boards, and other leadership teams. I am confident that this leadership team is equipped to guide the Canada East Mission Centre as we seek to fulfill God’s calling for us to be a community of Christ in the 21st century. Sincerely, Arthur Smith Field Apostle for Canada Thursday, March 3, 2022 |12:00 noon ET

The church has about 140 members in Ukraine. Apostle Richard James works to keep in touch with members as fighting continues, but communication is difficult. He said in late February that a member and his wife who live in Kyiv were “doing ok” but fearful about what was happening in their nation. Another member and her family in Kyiv were spending their nights in her basement, attempting to avoid shelling. “She is very frightened,” James said. These individuals and others mentioned here, whose names were withheld for security reasons, appreciated very much the prayers and concerns of the church, James said. Across the border in Russia, former church staff also expressed appreciation for messages of support received from the church. As fighting in Ukraine escalated, at least one church member family left Odessa and is in the Republic of Moldova. Other members are safe in Spain and Russia. Yet two other families are still in the Donbass region, the Russia-affiliated area, and are not threatened by shelling. Not many houses in Kyiv have basements and the only bomb shelter available nearby is the subway, a church member explained to James. “We are not able to reach [the subway] during air raids, so the only alternative is to stay in the apartment, sitting with our backs against weight-bearing wall in the hallway.” James said that until the recent invasion, congregations in Odessa and Kyiv had continued to meet. Outside Kyiv, congregations in Donetsk, Gorlovka, and Yasynuvata have endeavored in recent months to meet, but this area is held by rebels aligned with the Russian government and gathering isn’t always safe. Members attempt to keep in touch by phone. Church leaders in Germany will meet in coming days to determine how best to help Ukrainian refugees who likely will settle in Europe. Steve Graffeo, counselor to the presiding bishop, announced that $20,000 USD in oblation aid will be donated to four organizations with the ability to get aid to areas affected by the conflict. Your ongoing generosity to the Worldwide Mission Tithes makes this possible. Donations can be made through CanadaHelps. Each of these organizations will receive $5,000 from Community of Christ

Dar Shepherdson has returned home from two+ weeks in hospital following his heart attack where he received unique medical treatments by specialists to open up the blood flow to his heart. No surgery was required through the use of multiple stents. Dar came home before the weekend and is resting and recuperating from the trauma. Doctors indicate recovery will take several weeks. Office procedures to manage the responsibilities of Dar’s work are being facilitated by Apostle Art Smith, Mission Centre staff and his brother Lew. We are thankful for the blessings Dar has received and he, Shari and family are forever grateful for the prayers and caring support of people all across the church.
