Fresh Expressions the economic margins: An online ecumenical gathering – June 20 @ 3 p.m. ET
An online ecumenical ‘brave’ space for church at the economic margin’s advocates and practitioners of fresh expressions of church hosted by Fresh Expressions and the Methodist church. Hosted by: Tim Lea, Fresh Expressions Networks facilitator & animator and Eunice Attwood, Church at the Margins Officer, The Methodist Church There doesn’t have to be poverty in the UK – it’s an avoidable, solvable problem. But over many years, our society has been built in a way that traps people in hardship and keeps them there. Now, we urgently need to build something better. That’s why the Let’s End Poverty movement is coming together, as a diverse, growing group of people united for a future where poverty can’t keep anyone down. Across the UK, together with our communities, we’re calling on all our political leaders to make tackling and ultimately ending poverty a priority. As churches living and working in solidarity with our communities, how can we be part of the movement for change? How can we champion, amplify and support our neighbours struggling against poverty and work with one another to call for a different future? Join us to hear about how Let’s End Poverty is mobilizing communities ahead of the UK General Election, using conversation, arts and activism – and how you can be a part of building the movement for change. In response to World Conference Resolution 1325 on the Climate Emergency adopted on 25 April 2023, Community of Christ declared a climate emergency. Reunion 2024 serves as an opportunity for education, formation, and a call to action inspired by this World Conference Resolution. Through classes, worships, and additional invitations for reunion directors and planning teams, communities will be invited to explore the many intersecting issues of justice and peace that find root in the climate crisis. Explore the challenges of engaging with the climate crisis in contexts where it remains a contentious political issue. Led by the North American Climate Justice Team, this session will delve into responding constructively and faithfully in discussions about this important topic within the church. This session will be offered in English. All those planning, leading, and participating in reunions are welcome. Learning to talk about climate change with people who hold a variety of perspectives is an important aspect of our Enduring Principle “Worth of All Persons.” This is a special one-time session of CIMM (Center for Innovation in Mission and Ministry) sponsored by Community of Christ World Church. The session is free. Registration is required. It's that time again when we need to ready Camp Noronto for the new camping season, and we need lots of help!
There are many jobs to be done, with priority on cleaning buildings and clearing pathways, etc. If you can come for a day, or an overnight stay, PLEASE DO! The Hilton will be open for accommodation both Friday night (for eager beavers! - bring your own breakfast for Saturday morning!) and Saturday night. Lunch and Dinner will be provided on Saturday, and Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday. Every little bit of help is so appreciated, whether you pick up a rake, a broom, or leaf blower! In the end, this work benefits all of our families’ camping experiences. Archie, formerly of Foldens, had resided at Woodingford Lodge in Ingersoll for the past 22 months. Born March 31, 1931, Archie was the son of Oliver Bert and Mary Francis (McCombs) Hill and was predeceased by 10 siblings, Earl, Leona, Carl, Les, Ken, Alvin, Helen, June, Bert & Mary. Archie leaves behind his beloved wife Grace (Fry) of nearly 68 years. Loving Father of Diana (Ross) and Mark (Jill). Grandfather to Chelsea, Keira, Derek, Jacob and Vasey, Great Grandfather to Reid & Owen. In his early years Archie worked for the County of Oxford alongside his father. He then attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, graduating with an Associate of Arts degree. In 1971 the Hills purchased a shoe store in Wingham, Ontario which they operated for 19 years. During that time Archie obtained his Certification in Pedorthics. He was a founding member and past president of the Pedorthic Association of Canada (PAC). During his tenure there he was honoured with a Life Membership. To quote from that presentation; “As a Director and President, Archie’s gentle, straightforward approach guided PAC’s Board well, particularly during stressful times when a calming presence was most needed. His familiarity with parliamentary procedure resolved many questions, and his unwavering morals set an example for all. Kind words and heartfelt emotions are Archie’s tools and he employed them well…” While residing in Wingham, Archie was a member/past president of the Lion’s Club, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and served on the Wingham Hospital Board. Archie was a lifetime member and ordained minister in Community of Christ, serving in a variety of roles, including Pastor for 10 years. In his retirement, Archie returned to the family homestead in Foldens. He had many hands-on hobbies. With his son Mark, he enjoyed restoring a 1926 Ford Model T. The same make and model he later learned was once owned by his father in his earlier years. He enjoyed entering his car in car shows and taking family and friends for rides. Archie’s kind, ever-giving nature, always thinking of others before himself and his steadfast love will always be with us. He was a wonderful husband, a great father and grandfather and a dedicated servant to his faith. Our special thanks to Dr. Roth and to the staff at Woodingford Lodge for the compassionate care received. Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the Ingersoll 50+ Activity Centre, 250 Ingersoll Street South at 2:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to his favorite charity World Accord, a non-profit International Development Agency, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
