![]() Delegates, Members, Friends, Save the dates of October 23 & 24 for our annual CEM Conference. This will be an on-line event again this year due to unknown health liability concerning Covid. We invite you to join our Conference from the safety of your home amongst your family. All are welcome to share together “Encircled in Joyful Celebration”, our Conference theme. For simplification, once again this will be designated a "special conference" to allow a smooth flow of proceedings in a timely manner to facilitate the business of Mission Centre operations. Our agenda will include inspirational, relational and informative interactions in Zoom breakout rooms. More information will follow about our Global Village interactive sessions to discuss topics of great interest. Link to our CEM webpage cemconference.ca to see the complete schedule and links to familiarize you with your Conference experience. Saturday Conference activities will commence at 10 am with our Global Village break-out groups followed by lunch and health breaks. The simplified afternoon Conference will begin at 1 p.m. and conclude by 4 p.m. Saturday evening will include an on-line campfire experience starting at 7 p.m. On Sunday, our CEM worship service will partner with Beyond the Walls beginning at 12 noon. President of Seventy John Glaser will be our guest minister for this CEM service. Our theme for the Conference weekend is "Encircled in Joyful Celebration." Joy transcends Covid! Joy radiates as an inner expression visibly shared. Joy is contagious. Joy is kindred. Joy is memorable. Joy is a spiritual practice. This fulness of Joy encircles those gathered. Be expectant. Practice your Joy and come to share Joy!! Register for the Conference by clicking the button below. Pastors will receive their congregational packages for delegate selection from the CEM office. Delegates are required to register and have their own individual device to vote (cell phone, computer or tablet). In advance of the Conference, training sessions will take place to familiarize delegates with our voting platform, Poll Everywhere. We will as is customary host pre-legislative discussions prior to the Conference to review information, motions, and budgets. Nouwen was a Dutch Catholic priest, professor, writer and theologian. After nearly two decades of teaching at academic institutions including the University of Notre Dame, Yale Divinity School and Harvard Divinity School, Nouwen went on to work with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the L'Arche Daybreak community in Richmond Hill, Ontario. The Book Club meets on Zoom, Tuesday's from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. If you would like to join, or want further information, email Susan Trimble . Overview of The Return of the Prodigal Son A chance encounter with a reproduction of Rembrandt's "The Return of the Prodigal Son" catapulted Henri Nouwen on a long spiritual adventure. Here he shares the deeply personal and resonant meditation that led him to discover the place within which God has chosen to dwell. In seizing the inspiration that came to him through Rembrandt's depiction of the powerful Gospel story, Henri Nouwen probes the several movements of the parable: the younger son's return, the father's restoration of sonship, the elder son's vengefulness, and the father's compassion. In his reflection on Rembrandt in light of his own life journey, the author evokes the powerful drama of the parable in a rich, captivating way that is sure to reverberate in the hearts of readers. The themes of homecoming, affirmation, and reconciliation will be newly discovered by all who have known loneliness, dejection, jealousy, or anger. The challenge to love as the father and be loved as the son will be seen as the ultimate revelation of the parable known to Christians throughout time, and here represented with a vigour and power fresh for our times. For all who ask, "Where has my struggle led me?" or for those "on the road" who have had the courage to embark on the journey but seek the illumination of a known way and safe passage, this work will inspire and guide each time it is read. Saturday, August 7 @ 2 PM EDT
ZOOM Link will be posted at go.ecamping.ca Liberty Hall was built in 1881 in Lamoni, Iowa, and until 1905 was home to Joseph Smith III, the first president of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - now the Community of Christ. Smith served in this capacity from 1860 to 1914. He called his home Liberty Hall to welcome all who might come to visit him and his family. Liberty Hall was a center of social and religious life for the community. There were parties and weddings and fun nights before the fireplace eating apples and popcorn, playing games and reading aloud. Joseph Smith said "Liberty Hall throbbed with life, teeming with the bustling activities of a large and growing family." Birth, death, and marriage occurred within its walls. Joys and sorrows succeeded each other, as day and night. We are pleased to have our tour hosted by Stephen Smith. Steve grew up in Nauvoo where he and his family have been intimately involved with the Joseph Smith Historic Site. After a career as a teacher and lawyer, Steve retired and became the Site Director and Team Leader at the Liberty Hall Historic Site. Steve looks forward to sharing his fascination with Church history with us! |
